Charter

What We Are

The Grim Legion is a family end-game guild on the Kirin Tor - US PvE-RP server (Central Standard Time).

Our Goals

We are focused on experiencing the end-game content and we are somewhere between a hardcore raiding guild and a casual guild, or what we like to call "temporarily hardcore". We observe a regular schedule for all of our official guild activities. The temporarily hardcore aspect comes from our desire to perform well at everything we do, so our people are expected to be self-motivated, skilled, knowledgeable, and well-prepared for the content we face. We consider ourselves a "family" guild in the sense that if you screw up, we may tease you, but we won't kick you from the guild on a whim and say, "l2play n00b"; rather, we'll try and figure out what went wrong and help you do better next time. If you are willing to put in the effort, we will help you get better.

Values

Real Life > WoW Life

We know, respect and encourage all members to have an active life outside of WoW. Many of us have kids, relationships, work, vacations, sports, and other activities. Having to leave a group or event to take care of your real life is understood and expected. With that said, respect the time of others, and if you know you cannot make an event, cancel your participation. If you have to leave, let the leader know and go take care of real life. And if you want to take a week off and just hang out with real life friends, well . . . we will miss you, but have fun!

Commitment

In Grim Legion we believe that the every member of the guild is valuable. You are all important; you make up the guild. We do, however, expect you to consider the needs of other guild members when you are playing and treat them fairly. We should all strive to:

  • Aid each other in enjoying the game and reaching our individual and collective goals.
  • Treat your fellow members, and anyone you meet in game, fairly and equitably.
  • Respect the time of your fellow members and their right to enjoy the game.
  • Contribute to the collective enjoyment and success of our members and the guild.

Some specific things you can do to realize this vision are:

  • Provide crafting services freely to your fellow members.
  • Do not ask a member to craft something for you unless you are willing to provide the materials.
  • If you obtain a useful item from adventuring, consider offering it to a fellow guild member before selling it off; it helps them and strengthens the guild.
  • When you have some downtime, ask around on the guild chat if anyone needs help with quests, instances, etc.; just one more person can turn an impossible quest into a cakewalk

Integrity

Uphold the honor of the guild at all times. You represent not only the guild, but the name "Grim Legion" as well. Our reputation should make our members proud and others happy to have us around. Don't let your guild mates down. Stand behind the guild. Support them and help them stay positive. Our code of conduct is not the norm. It is often difficult to maintain a high standard without becoming frustrated. Encourage integrity, praise virtue, and respect sacrifice. If you feel someone acts remarkably let it be known so that all members may be proud.

Freedom

There are absolutely no restrictions on the number of alternates a player may have in the guild, nor will there ever be, barring the guild reaching its maximum member limit. No character will be pressured to play with any given class, talent specification, or profession. Advice may be given, but pressure to conform to another player's idea of what is fun for them will not be tolerated, and should be reported immediately to the guild master or an officer either in-game or by in-game email.

Competence

While we afford complete latitude in terms of class and Talent specification, we do expect players to competently and effectively execute their chosen party role, e.g., Tank, Ranged DPS, Melee DPS, or Healer. Our beliefs around Freedom and Competence go hand in hand, and they are often summarized as follows:

Play what you like, but do it well.

Initiative

Our guild depends upon everyone of us to make it great place. Take the initiative to do your part to help make our guild an ideal place to enjoy the end-game.

Endurance and Patience

Understand that we are all trying to improve our characters every day the same as you. Don't become frustrated if no one in the guild can help you quest or grind when you want to. Ask and, if no one can help at that time, look for a pick-up group. DO NOT continually spam the guild chat channel asking for help.

Respect

Treat all members as equals. Don't get hung up on rank and never abuse power. Respect is earned.

Punctuality

We all agree to trust, respect and honor each other and this extends to our time commitments. From 5-man instances to 25- or 40-man raids, your guild mates are waiting on you to begin their fun and to enjoy their time.

Acknowledgements

Many of these concepts are quite universal and general. The following guilds provided inspiration when we first created these guidelines:

  • Kirin Tor’s <The Rainmakers>
  • Kirin Tor’s <Blacksky Company>
  • Kirin Tor’s Kirin Tor Raiding Alliance
  • Kirin Tor’s <Anomaly Faction>
  • Kirin Tor’s <Cthulhu Rising>
  • And all of the guilds that taught us what not to do...
