Recruitment FAQ - An Overview of the Grim Legion
What is the Grim Legion?
The Grim Legion is a family end-game guild on the Kirin Tor - US PvE-RP server (Central Standard Time).
What is your goal and what do you mean by "end-game"?
We are focused on experiencing the end-game content and we are somewhere between a hardcore raiding guild and a casual guild, or what we like to call "temporarily hardcore". We observe a regular schedule, which includes three nights of raiding, two nights off, and two nights for everything else (dungeons, PvP, etc.). The temporarily hardcore aspect comes from our desire to perform well at everything we do, so our people are expected to be self-motivated to be skilled, knowledgeable, and well-prepared for the content we face. We consider ourselves a "family" guild in the sense that if you screw up, we may tease you, but we won't kick you from the guild on a whim and say, "l2play n00b"; rather, we'll try and figure out what went wrong and help you do better next time. If you are willing to put in the effort, we will help you get better.
What do you expect of your members?
For the most part, conduct is king. We expect our members to be exemplary players in terms of skill, knowledge, generosity, integrity, and courtesy. Conduct implicitly includes active support of the guild and regular participation.
We want to ensure that our members get the support they need to see the end-game content as well as prepare for the harder stuff, such as raiding. When we do raid, we want our Raids to be fun and successful.
In a typical week, a guild member would be expected to participate in a minimum of three guild nights, including at least one night's worth of non-Raid guild events and at least two nights of raiding. Ideally, a member would participate more than the minimum on a regular basis, preferably 4 nights a week on average
When do you play?
Our schedule is designed to accommodate not only players in the Kirin Tor time zone (CST) but players in all four USA time zones. We typically play between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM server time during the week and 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM on the weekend. Our schedule is as follows:
| Night |
Activity |
| Monday |
Dungeons, etc. |
| Tuesday |
Raid Night |
| Wednesday |
Raid Night |
| Thursday |
Night off |
| Friday |
Miscellaneous |
| Saturday |
Night off |
| Sunday |
Raid Night |
* - These nights are more open-ended to address a wide variety of interests and needs
On raid nights, we will dynamically choose our location based upon the raiders available and their gear and experiences. The goal will always be to go to the highest tier Heroic Raid that the assembled raid is qualified to do.
What are your values?
We value maturity, mutual respect, humor, skill, knowledge, and participation. We beat drama with a stick and kick it out the door. If you are raiding solely for the loot, you will not be happy here; the gear is a means to an end for us, it's not the goal. We get gear so we can see content, not the other way around.
You can read more about our guiding principles in our Articles of War (under "FAQs" on our front page).
What gear do I need before I join?
We don't have any gear requirements for joining the guild. However, we require you to meet certain gear targets before you can join us in heroic dungeons and raids. You can find these requirements in our article on how to become a Praetorian.
We do require that you reach level 68 before you join the guild, as that is the level at which you can begin to experience the content of the most recent expansion, Wrath of the Lich King(tm). As you journey through Northrend, we will help support you in getting into the instances you need to get your gear and quests finished, in both regular and heroic dungeons.
Of course, we'd love to have people stroll in all geared up and ready to raid, but Grim Legion welcomes people that are not ready to raid, provided they are prepared to put in the necessary work to get ready and are able to take constructive criticism well. We have strong standards that enable us to train and equip our newer members and make them successful when they do start to raid. Our standards are so nifty that they have inspired other guilds!
What happens when I join?
You will be given the rank of Initiate and asked to create and maintain a thread in the Promotions forum to track your progress. You will then be expected to upload your data to our Roster site and complete four *guild* runs within three weeks to pass initiation and become a full member, a.k.a. a Whelp. More details can be found here.
When can I raid?
When you'll be successful at it. We have a raiding rank, Praetorian, that members earn by acquiring appropriate gear, with appropriate end-game enchantments, glyphs, and inscriptions. After that, they complete a test run(s) to evaluate their ability and identify points for improvement. Upon successful completion of these requirements, and assuming they are a member in good standing, they are eligible for Praetorian status.
Note: You might have opportunities to raid earlier, as a filler, but that should not be the norm.
What about chat? Does "family" mean G-rated?
World of Warcraft - and our guild chat - is rated Teen. The vast majority of our members are adults. We have eclectic senses of humor, but mutual respect is paramount.
Good chat
- Commentary and chat in plain English that is pertinent to the game and/or amusing.
Bad chat
- Conversing "l33t" speak, "dude" speak, including "where r u?"
- Abusive comments
- Blathering on in guild chat when one-on-one whispers are more appropriate
- Excessive use of guild chat as a substitute for looking up information
- Excessive vulgarity
What about PvP?
We do PvP, but it's not our focus, mostly because it is easier to throw together a group for PvP. We do encourage our members to participate in order to hone their skills, get gear, and blow off steam (or generate it, in some cases). We have multiple arena teams going for just those reasons.
What about RP?
We are not an RP guild, but we respect others' right to RP, so our stance is that RP is optional. We don't require or encourage it, but we'll protect your right to do it.
How do I apply?
If you wish to apply, please head on over to our forums and follow the instructions in the Applications Forum. There is a topic there, titled Applications, that will instruct you on how to submit your application. Thanks to the forum spambots of the world, we do require you to create an account (which requires authentication) to submit a membership application. Our forum is an integral part of our guild operations and a requirement to become a member, so having an account eases the transition when we bring you on board.
NOTE: due to spambots and such, all accounts must be manually activated. Once you create your account, please contact Skindancer in-game, via mail or whisper, to have your account activated.
But I have another question!
If you have questions after reviewing our Articles of War and our site, please don't hesitate to contact any of our officers.
We look forward to hearing from you!
